2. SPN 1483/FMI 12 – GHG17
This fault indicates the CPC3 detected the MCM is not broadcasting information on the PTCAN. Note that TCM SPN 521224 FMI 14 and ACM SPN 1231 FMI 9 may also be present when this fault is active.
Check as follows:
1. Connect DiagnosticLink ® 8.0 or higher.
2. Turn the ignition ON.
3. Are there any battery voltage faults (SPN 168 FMI any)?
a. Yes, troubleshoot battery voltage faults first.
b. No; Go to step 4.
4. Is the MCM online?
a. Yes, clear all faults. With DiagnosticLink connected, road test vehicle. If fault does not become active during
road test, release the vehicle. If fault becomes active during road test Go to step 5.
b. No; Go to step 5.
5. Turn the ignition OFF.
6. Disconnect the MCM 21-pin connector.
7. Inspect MCM 21-pin connector for corrosion, water intrusion or pin damage. Is damage is found?
a. Yes; repair as necessary.
b. No; Go to step 8.
8. Turn the ignition ON.
9. Measure the voltage between MCM 21-pin connector pins 7, 11, 12, 14 and 15 (ignition/battery voltage) and ground. Is the voltage less than 11.5 volts?
a. Yes; restore voltage to MCM 21-pin connector pins 7, 11, 12, 14 and 15. Refer to EZWiring for detailed schematic information.
b. No; Go to step 10.
10. Turn the ignition OFF.
11. Measure the resistance between MCM 21-pin connector pins 5, 6, 8 and 9 (negative battery post). Is resistance greater than three ohms?
a. Yes; restore battery ground to MCM 21-pin connector pins 5, 6, 8 and 9. Refer to EZWiring for detailed
schematic information.
b. No; repair PTCAN harness between the MCM and the PTCAN (Yellow) Star point connector. Refer to
EZWiring/Drawing Type: Schematics Diagrams/Vehicle Sub-System:/Data link and Diagnostics (J1587 and
J1939) module for detailed schematic information. See schematic location example below.
